Heart Horse is Waiting Facebook (Facebook Cover)

Our Mission

Each year hundreds of Thoroughbreds arrive in Puerto Rico and surrounding islands. The challenges of transitioning them back to the States are enormous, but our commitment is strong. We believe every racehorse deserves a happy ending - particularly if that racing career ends in a remote Caribbean destination
Caribbean Thoroughbred Aftercare is the ONLY horse rescue dedicated to the retirement of racing thoroughbreds in the Caribbean. We are committed to improving welfare for racing thoroughbreds in the Caribbean. We accomplish this by maintaining a working relationship with Camarero Racetrack and the Puerto Rico Racing commission.
CTA has developed a path for responsible retirement and implemented transition protocols for thoroughbreds transitioning off the track that includes full evaluations and x-rays. Our dedicated staff then focuses on helping horses transition to their next careers.
We spend a tremendous amount of resources and time rehabilitating horses, re-training and finally helping them to find their forever homes. During their time with us, the horses live on our 10-acre farm where they get to enjoy plenty of turnout time, sunshine, and horse friends.

CTA’s Tax ID EIN number is: 66-0869307

Thoroughbreds are versatile, athletic, and possess extraordinary hearts. Our mission is to provide a safe passage and provide a soft landing for these deserving athletes who give their all to their owners, trainers, and fans.
